  1. Listed below are some of the more common questions and their 
  2. answers. Please check the information below prior to calling 
  3. Product Support.

  5. Question: AT 1024x768x256 RESOLUTION VIDEO PUICTURES "SEGMENTS"
  6.  
  7. Answer:   There is a problem with some video drivers @ 1024x768x256
  8.       resolution. The video picture will "segment" in the 
  9.       larger viewport templates. This occurs when the AVI 
  10.       file is captured at a low resolution (ex:160x120) and 
  11.       then scaled to high resolution in large viewports. 
  12.       Try selecting a smaller viewprt template (/T switch).
  13.       Check Cool Software BBS (512-918-2001), or other major 
  14.       BBS services, for an update if and when it is available.

  17. Question: VIDEO is SLOW/PAUSES
  18.       The video runs slow or stops(pauses) from time to time.
  19.  
  20. Answer:   The performance of the Video & Sound will depend on the 
  21.       current system in use. To help achieve a smoother play 
  22.       back you may wish to try one or more of the following:
  23.  
  24.       - Use a smaller Viewport. This is done by selecting a 
  25.         different template set.
  26.         ( /T setting in BITMAP section of CVS file).
  27.  
  28.       ** IMPORTANT: You MUST include the /T switch on ALL 
  29.             BITMAPS, even if you are using FULL SCREEN, 
  30.             CENTERED, or any of the other templates that 
  31.             may not actual use the switch.    
  32.       
  33.       - Check use and setting of SMARTDRV and other disk 
  34.         caching software.
  35.  
  36.       - Check for Temp vs. Permanent swap files. You will 
  37.         probably want to use a temporary swap file.
  38.  
  39.       - Check for other memory configurations your CONFIG.SYS 
  40.         & AUTOEXEC.BAT files.
  41.  
  42.       - Turn off sound if you don't have a sound card 
  43.         installed.
  44.  
  45.       - Disk compression software may slow down video playback 
  46.         depending on compression ratios etc.

  49. Question: VIDEO COLOR IS POOR 
  50.       The video plays but looks flat and pixelated (blocky).
  51.  
  52. Answer:   Your Windows is probably set for 16 color. Run Windows 
  53.       set up to verify. For best color use 256 color. You will
  54.       probably need to use the driver supplied with your 
  55.       computer. Contact the maker if not sure.

  58. Question: BITMAP DRAWING IS "JERKY" at 800x600 or 1024x768 MODE.
  59.  
  60. Answer:   The bitmaps that we have included are 640x480. For the
  61.       higher resolutions we scale the bitmaps. This process
  62.       of scaling causes the "jerkyness" of the bitmap draw.
  63.       If you are using 800x600 or above you may wish to save
  64.       the bitmap in the demos and the ones that you create
  65.       at the appropriate resolution, ie 800x600 etc. You may
  66.       do this via the background editor in the set up panel.

  69. Question: EVERYTHING IS SIZED WRONG.
  70.       Everything runs however the layout is just not right.       
  71.       
  72. Answer:   You are probably running in a mode higher than 640x480. 
  73.       Try running at 640x480. Another possibility is that your
  74.       VGA driver is old. Verify the current revision with the 
  75.       maker of your system.

  78. Question: VIDEO WRONG LOCATION
  79.       The video plays but in the wrong location.
  80.  
  81. Answer:   You have probably specified a wrong /T setting in your 
  82.       CVS file. Check your template list (comes with Regist-
  83.       ered version) and make correction.

  86. Question: MCI ERRORS- VIDEO
  87.       When I attempt to play a video I get MCI ERRORS.
  88.  
  89. Answer:   Your system is probably not set up for Multi Media or
  90.       has an old set of drivers. Run the Video for Windows 
  91.       Runtime disk that comes with both the shareware and 
  92.       registered versions.

  95. Question: MCI ERRORS- SOUND
  96.       When I attempt to play a video I get MCI ERRORS.

  98. Answer:   Your system is probably not set up for Multi Media or
  99.       has an old set of drivers. Run the Video for Windows 
  100.       Runtime disk that comes with both the shareware and 
  101.       registered versions. You may also have your sound card
  102.       mis-configured. Check for IRQ/IO conflicts with newly
  103.       installed hardware. Re-run sound card set up program.

  106. Question: NO SOUND
  107.       Everything else plays except sound.
  108.  
  109. Answer:   You may have checked the SOUND OFF switch in the config-
  110.       uration screen. Also make sure you have not selected 
  111.       SOUND SOURCE AVI and your AVI file has no sound. You can
  112.       also try another CVS file and see if problem continues.

  114. Question: NO AVI
  115.       What happens if I list an AVI file that is either not 
  116.       present or can not be located?
  117.  
  118. Answer:   The system will play until the requested AVI. At this 
  119.       point the system will halt. The background bitmap will 
  120.       be present and the sound may continue to play. The 
  121.       system will still respond to the user's request to 
  122.       terminate via mouse or keyboard.

  125. Question: NO WAV
  126.       What happens if I list an WAV file that is either not 
  127.       present or can not be located?
  128.  
  129. Answer:   The system will play  but will not play any sound. The
  130.       system will continue to play AVI and Bitmaps. The system
  131.       will still respond to the user's request to terminate 
  132.       via mouse or keyboard.

  135. Question: NO BITMAP
  136.       What happens if I list an BITMAP file that is either 
  137.       not present or can not be located?
  138.  
  139. Answer:   The system will play until but will display A BLACK 
  140.       BACKGROUND. The system will continue to play AVI and 
  141.       bitmap. The system will still respond to the user's 
  142.       request to terminate via mouse or keyboard.

  145. Question: KERNEL386 / USER ERROR
  146.       System begins to start up and then stops and displays 
  147.       one of the above errors. 
  148.  
  149. Answer:   You have probably deleted a section or have left a 
  150.       section blank in your CVS file. Each section(AVI, 
  151.       BITMAP, WAV) MUST contain 1 file. You may use the 
  152.       "BLACK.BMP", "BLANK.WAV" for the Bitmap section and 
  153.       Wav section. Check the COOLSCRN.LOG file located in 
  154.       the root directory of your "C" drive. If you receive 
  155.       any "R-" errors check your R-ERROR list (comes with
  156.       Registered version).
